Rush Rush…. Wait...

March '14

All of this paper work and meeting's feels a lot like travel! Rush, rush, rush… what am I forgetting? Did we get everything signed? Once its all complete, WAIT! Its like a panic to pack everything, get to the airport on time and then sit and wait because your flight has been delayed (in our situation it's been delayed 2-4 years). At this point we are 1/2 way through our home study now and shooting to be done by end of March or early April. So far so good! It has been mildly intrusive (as it should be) and digging up the past 29 years has had it's moments… I'm not going to lie!
Our last meeting included the kids (never again). What a gong show!! It's like they tried extra hard to be on their worst behaviour and test our limits to the max. Surprise Surprise!!

The last few weeks we have overloaded on documentaries and reading material. US Netflix had tons to choose from, it was great! Some of them hard to stomach; with one or two that I just couldn't finish. I'll list them below if anyone is looking. They are not all on adoption, but culture "way of life" for some children. I experienced every emotion watching these and I'm sure they can be found on line.

Netflix:
Children of Payre
Mother India (available on Can Netflix)
Stuck
The World Before Her
Off and Running
First Circle
The Blood of Yingz Hou
Half the Sky episode 1 & 2
It's a Girl (available on Can Netflix)
Somewhere Between (available on Can Netflix)

Books:
Hidden Betrayed Exploited And Forgotten

Cut: The True Story Of An Abandoned, Abused Little Girl Who Was Desperate To Be Part Of A Family

Saddest Girl In The World

Happy Kids

I Like Myself!

Chocolate Me!

The Best Part of Me: Children talk about their bodies in pictures and words

The Skin You Live In

Will You Love Me?: The story of my adopted daughter Lucy

Our next task is completing the Self Assessment Questionnaire (26 pages of questions). It is for adopting older children or special needs. I'm having a hard time with it as I don't consider a 2 year old an "older child." In the adoption world, I guess it is. A special needs child also means a child who has spent time in an orphanage, not just one with a mental or physical disability or disease. So… we've received a list of special needs (lengthy) and must go through them checking either 1.) we will accept or 2.) we will not accept
We've made an apt. with our physician as more than half of the "special needs" are foreign to us. Also considering with today's medicine and health care, some might be very minuscule or very easy to control now. It's a bit overwhelming and I'm hoping our doctor can help clear it all up for us!

On a side note… Our trip was amazing! The kids had a blast and we soaked up the sun, sand and surf for 2.5 glorious weeks with 30+ weather. Likely our last trip for a long time now and hoping the next trip we take will be with our new little one. A tad bit excited to come home to some snow but we've had our fill now and it can go any day now! Bring on SPRING!!
