We've been MIA for the last while and finally have some time to sit think…
Life sure can get away from you and zoom past like the blink of an eye! The last few weeks have been difficult. Finishing up our home study, putting together our dossier and photos and filing for citizenship. For those who don't know, a dossier is a file that contains all your information, who you are and what you are about. Heres a quick over view of what it contains:
local criminal record checks (2)
medical reports including reports for all of our children
financial statements from taxes including papers from the CRA
verification of income from our employer
letter to department of social welfare:
~who we are, dob, nationality and where born
~describe our child and any medical conditions we are willing to accept (very hard)
~why lesotho?
~about Nelson and where we live
~our culture plan (how do we plan to incorporate her culture into our lives on a daily basis)
~about our work (what we do and where)
guardianship letters ~ signed and notarized
post-placement repots agreements ~ signed
statement of risks in inter-country adoptions ~ signed
power of attorney ~ signed and notarized
letters of consent from family members (a short sentence stating they accept our adoption, accept an adopted child into our family and will love and care for them as they would any other child we have)
birth certificates ~ signed and notarized
passports ~ signed and notarized
marriage certificare ~ signed and notarized
photographs ~ 4 copies of each: interior of our house (all rooms), exterior, child's bedroom, surrounding environments, schools, parks, work places, ourselves, extended family & immediate family
PHEW…. did I miss anything?! Needless to say, it's been busy and I've never stood so long at the Walmart photo kiosk waiting for pictures to print. With all of that, we've still been having our social worker visits and regular busy boy activities. With the weather finally turning to spring, it's been nice to get outside. Park visits, soccer starting next weekend (Quinn's first year and daddy coaching!) I can't wait for summer!
During our last 2 home study visits and our letter to department of social welfare we've had to look over some very difficult things… What does our child look like? You picture a beautiful happy healthy child but then handed a medical form of what you will accept and what you won't. It was very daunting and personally one of the hardest things to accomplish. We took a few extra weeks to sit on this one… it wasn't an easy project we could just jump all over and complete. At no point do you ever wish your child to have any type of medical issue whether bio or not. But, with the help of our doctor and other adoptive families we managed to accomplish it. All is good, and we can now move onto our next step! YAY!
Next week we will finish up a few last minute photos I forgot about taking, write another big fat cheque, package up our dossier and send it off to Sunrise who will then send it off to Lesotho! Then we truly wait, wait and…. wait
So, to all of you… I wish you a Happy Easter with much love and hope you are all enjoying some family. To us… Happy Dossier! Yahoo!!
